I've Got A Crush On You

I've Got a Crush on You — George and Ira Gershwin, 1928. One of the Gershwins' most enduring standards, first written for "Strike Up the Band" as a brisk up-tempo number and later reborn as the slow, smoldering ballad the world knows today. Ira's lyric is all flirtation and understatement, and George's harmony gives it the kind of chromatic ache that made the song a permanent fixture in the American songbook. This arrangement is for low voice, string orchestra, and brush drumset, written in the lush, harmonically rich jazz idiom of early 20th-century popular music with elements of slow swing. A first violin solo takes the middle section. A vocal score with piano reduction is also provided.
